It is nice to have a four day weekend but starting the week with a very busy day will be a bit of a challenge. My Yr 10 Food Technology class has only missed 2 lessons due to my tumble down the stairs and time off with the sore ankle but still it is going to be a challenge now to get them back on task. Tomorrow they will have to do their topic test on Preservation although we could do the bottling of peaches if we were in the food prep lab. Period 2 my class should all be attending the 'sticks and stones' presentation. I hope they do as then I will have to supervise and will also have the opportunity to view the techniques. Yr 12 Hospitality will be doing a practical lesson on steaming- chicken en papilotte....chicken cooked in paper which is a fun and also different method of cookery. I just hope they all remember to bring their chef's whites so that all can be involved. Then I have 2 more lessons- my Yr 7 Technology Food course-they were apparently SO excited last week when they did baked potatoes...now I need to get them organised to do biscuits. And Yr 8 are then in the computer room....what we are meant to be doing is not clear to me at this time....hopefully someone will be able to advise me in the morning. The class is ready to do their own designs on their bandannas....I guess they can research that. Oh yes there is a video for them to view on-line as well. Some time during the day I need to check on how many people the principal needs to have lunch organised for on Wed and a suggestion of what he would like. At the end of the day I will have to go to the shop to get organised for that and for the other school function on Wed evening. It is going to be a busy day......
Well it is Easter Sunday here in Australia and I am just thinking about the different ways with which I celebrate here from my tradition in Ks where I grew up. This morning the Easter bunny, or if I was being very politically correct- the Easter Bilby- would have delivered LOTS of chocolate eggs to our house. Not like growing up where we usually received a small gift of some sort, generally some jewellry, with malted milk balls and chocolates in a special Easter basket which was kept and used from year to year.
We have just eaten some hot cross buns- an English tradition of a spiced fruit bun with a piped cross on the top for morning tea. I made some Rocky Road for any guest as well-marshmallow, chopped macadamia nuts, coconut, glace cherries and broken biscuits all layered between melted chocolate, refrigerated and then chopped up. Tasty!
Lunch will be curried egg sandwiches made out of some of the red dyed eggs....traditionally done with onion skins....with which we are following the Greek cultural tradition for Easter where we will hold one egg each in our hand, with the end sticking out, and hit together to see which does not break-signifying which of us is going to have good luck for the next year. I love to see the Ukranian decorated eggs as well but have not been able to purchase any yet....there is a lady who does them here but they are very limited in quantity.
Then this afternoon I will roast a leg of lamb with lots of rosemary, garlic, oregano, olive oil and the like....we will have that for tea along with hot vegetables.
Tomorrow I may go to Sydney for the Royal Easter Show, our equivalent of a State Fair. It is expensive at over 30 dollars to enter but then there is a lot of entertainment and things to see and do. We are not on our two week school break at this time since Easter is so early so I can imagine the Easter Show is super busy with lots of families making the most of the 4 day school break. I would like to attend but will wait to see the weather tomorrow....we are just beginning to feel the autumn weather and it has been damp the last two days.
Hope you have a great Easter ....enjoy this time and remember the reason for the celebration!
